Summer in Wisconsin is our favorite time of year! The kids are out of school, the BBQ is fired up and we’re all trying to soak up as much of the summer sun as possible. All this seasonal activity has us bringing the outdoors in, but preventative maintenance can help protect your floors from wet swimsuit drips and sandy feet!
Keep your floors looking fresh with a few of these summertime floor care tips!
Hardwood, Tile & Laminate
Damp mop weekly, or as needed, and allow to air dry. We recommend using our concentrated SCF Floor Cleaner; it’s safe for hardwood, tile, and laminate, and goes a long way! Dilute one tablespoon with one gallon of warm water, dampen the mop with the solution, wring it out and mop the floors.
Place dirt-trapping mats at all of your exterior doors as well as area rugs in high traffic areas. This will help to keep dirt, grit and, sand from scratching your floors and finish. Throw rugs just inside the door are also helpful.
Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth to prevent staining or water damage. Water left on the surface can create stains, or do further damage under the surface.
Vacuum regularly with a brush attachment to pick up pet hair, dirt, etc. If you have an upright vacuum, use the hard surface setting.
Place felt pads, such as EZ Glides, under the legs of your furniture to prevent scuffing or scratching of your floors. We offer 5 different shapes and sizes to fit any piece of furniture that rests or moves across your wood floor. Clean EZ Glides periodically and replace when needed.
We DO NOT recommend using wax, Murphy® Oil Soap, Orange Glow®, Pledge® or other household cleaners as they leave a residue that can be difficult to remove. Our Schmidt Custom Floors Cleaner is all natural and is safe to use on hardwood, tile, laminate and vinyl flooring.
Click here or stop by our showroom on Johnson Drive in Waukesha to pick up cleaner, EZ Glides & more!
Our 5th Annual Golf Outing was a success! This year we partnered with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin to sponsor William, a three-year-old in Menomonee Falls who wishes to have a camper. All of the proceeds and donations from the event will be going to help grant William’s wish!
We kicked off the event with an introduction to William and his parents, who shared a few sweet words and sent the golfers on their way. Luckily, the rain stayed away long enough for 18 holes of golf and activities! Afterward, we rounded up the players for dinner, and to raffle off prizes and announce the winners of the day.
We’d really like to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, and customers who came out to support and contribute to such a wonderful day. And a very special thanks to Ironwood Golf Course for hosting and Make-A-Wish Wisconsin for all the hard work!
Our fourth annual golf outing was last Tuesday. This event was co-hosted with Cat5 Restoration Company. It was a gorgeous day and the event was a success. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, and customers for coming and contributing to the day. This year all of our proceeds and company donations are going to the Make-A-Wish Wisconsin foundation and sponsoring the wish of a little girl, Vivian, who wishes to go to Disney World. We had a previous Wish Family come and speak to the group before they hit the course. Below is the link for the video Ironwood put together of all the golfers, sponsors, and workers. Thanks Ironwood Golf Course for hosting and capturing the day!
This past Friday evening at the Marriott Milwaukee West we held our annual Schmidt Custom Floors Christmas party. Each year we gather all the employees and their significant others to celebrate another year of hard work. The snow was coming down steady this year, but that didn’t keep us from getting together! The hotel was a new location for our annual party, but it did not disappoint with its beautiful ballroom chandeliers, tasty buffet spread, and delicious decadent desserts. The format for the party began with dinner and was followed by our President, Tim Schmidt’s, company address and awards ceremony. The company gifted our president and vice president with an array of gift cards to some of their favorite restaurants, a family tree printed and placed on canvas and wood, and a large, sturdy cutting board. Each divisional manager presented the awards for their winning crew members/partners. This year we played a fun employee trivia game for prizes donated by our Holiday Party Sponsors.
We are blessed and eager to get everyone together around the holidays to celebrate the work and efforts displayed from all levels throughout the year. Without the people and group as a whole we would not be the business we are today. Our numbers are up and we couldn’t be happier about the growth and unity we have as a company.
From all of us at Schmidt Custom Floors, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
It’s the little things that mean the most sometimes. Our Athletic Division crews over the summer worked in Beardstown, IL and installed a new synthetic gym floor for First Christian Church. The gym was greatly welcomed and appreciated by all, and especially by the 2nd Grade class. We received this thank you note (shown below) from the second graders and their teacher. It was such a sweet and kind gesture that doesn’t happen all too often in the gym floor business. We couldn’t help but want to share this act of thoughtfulness.

Team Schmidt Custom Floors- 2016 Milwaukee Heart & Stroke Walk/5K Fun Run
This past Sunday morning Schmidt Custom Floors employees, as well as their families, gathered together to walk for a cause. Anyone who was willing and able could come downtown to Veterans Park in Milwaukee for the Walk/5K Fun Run. We had close to 40 participants this year join and support our team. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning on the lakefront for the event. SCF has donated and worked with the American Heart Association for the past two years. Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We enjoy participating in and supporting such a local, great cause!
On Sunday, September 20th, 2015, 26 members of the Schmidt Custom Flooring team participated in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Heart Walk at Veterans Park. We are very proud to have raised nearly $3,000 for the AHA to this point, and there’s still time to donate!
Thank you to everyone for participating and donating to our team! We look forward to continuing our support for the American Heart Association and participating in similar fantastic events in the future.
