Schmidt Hand-Crafted Floors
At Schmidt Custom Floors, Inc. we are always looking for the latest and greatest. Not only do we have everything for the modern design world, but we have those products that are unique enough to gather quite a fan-base, and we don't just carry these products, we manufacture those ourselves. Because of this we now have Schmidt Hand-Crafted Collections.
For the customer that wants just enough of a rustic-old-world feel to their floors, we have developed a way to make that wish come true. The Schmidt boys have taken actual lessons from the Amish to get just the right technique for these hand-scraped floors. Each board has to be scraped one at a time and stained one at a time. If you step inside our workshop, chances are you will see these boys hard at work on one of these jobs. The care and precision it takes to make these floors shine is so great that no two floors will ever look alike.
Two major characteristics of hand-scraped floors include the scrapes themselves and the chatter marks. Some may not like the chatter marks, but they are a fact of hand-scraping when the wood will not scrape out cleanly. Custom orders are made weekly with recommendations for anywhere from 3 to 5 scrapes per board or a completely random pattern. These floors can be ordered prefinished (each board being individually hand made in our warehouse) or site-finished with the scrapers decked out in knee-pads making the masterpiece in front of your eyes.
