Let’s Talk Rugs! Beauty and Benefits

Rugs are far more than just a beautiful piece of decor. Whether they’re your inspiration for design or the finishing touch on a room, area rugs can be the perfect addition to any space. Rugs are a fun and versatile way to make your house a home. Learn more about our Rug Boutique here

Add a pop of color or keep your tones consistent with a fun or patterned area rug! Liven up a neutral space by introducing some color or tie all of your accents together to unify the room. Rugs come in a huge variety of colors or even multi-colored, so it’s a great way to bring life and interest to a room.

The best way to add depth to a room is texture. When a textured rug is contrasted with a smoother surface, it draws attention to the beauty of your hardwood or tiled floors. Varying the textures in a room creates balance and appeals to our senses. There are things to feel, things to look at, and it keeps our interest.

Maybe the most obvious point, but area rugs amp up the cozy factor. It’s a great way to bring a room together in a subtle, yet intimate way. Adding a layer helps to soften and add warmth to your tile or hardwood floors. We love the long-lasting beauty of hardwood or tile floors but layering a rug over them can enhance that beauty and add a level of comfort to your floors. This advantage isn’t limited to hard surfaces, you can even layer over carpet! A feeling of comfort is inviting and makes relaxing in your space much easier.

With open space concepts being all the rage, it’s hard to know how to keep your spaces defined and your guests relaxed. Rather than building walls, define an area in your home with a rug! If it feels like your furniture is floating, adding an area rug really helps to define a gathering space. Rugs can draw your eye to highlight your beautiful floors! Other Benefits:

Reduce Echo

We know you love your wide open spaces, but the key to any great room is crafting intimacy. Keep the echo at bay with a rug! Adding a rug absorbs sounds instead of reflecting them back into the room. So while your rug may be a great conversation starter, it also helps keep the volume low. Win-win.

Quick Change

The magic of a rug is the ability to quickly update a space. Don’t have enough time for a full remodel? Add a new rug over wood, carpet or tile for a dramatic update. Maybe you’re changing up decor to match the seasons… get a new area rug and quickly change the look and feel of a room!

Finishing Touch

Any well-designed space needs to be tied together. Perhaps the most impressive feat of a rug is its ability to do just that. Complete your featured space with an area rug to unify all of your accents.  The finishing touch is really what makes a house YOUR home.

Come check out the Rug Boutique in our Waukesha showroom to view our selection of area rugs. We offer a variety of custom and ready-stock rugs, hand-knotted rugs, custom stair runners and more! And in honor of our 50th Anniversary, we’re offering a HUGE SALE starting October 18th through November 30th!

Summer Refresh!

Summer in Wisconsin is our favorite time of year! The kids are out of school, the BBQ is fired up and we’re all trying to soak up as much of the summer sun as possible. All this seasonal activity has us bringing the outdoors in, but preventative maintenance can help protect your floors from wet swimsuit drips and sandy feet!

Keep your floors looking fresh with a few of these summertime floor care tips!

Hardwood, Tile & Laminate

  • Damp mop weekly, or as needed, and allow to air dry. We recommend using our concentrated SCF Floor Cleaner; it’s safe for hardwood, tile, and laminate, and goes a long way! Dilute one tablespoon with one gallon of warm water, dampen the mop with the solution, wring it out and mop the floors.
  • Place dirt-trapping mats at all of your exterior doors as well as area rugs in high traffic areas. This will help to keep dirt, grit and, sand from scratching your floors and finish. Throw rugs just inside the door are also helpful.
  • Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth to prevent staining or water damage. Water left on the surface can create stains, or do further damage under the surface.
  • Vacuum regularly with a brush attachment to pick up pet hair, dirt, etc. If you have an upright vacuum, use the hard surface setting.
  • Place felt pads, such as EZ Glides, under the legs of your furniture to prevent scuffing or scratching of your floors. We offer 5 different shapes and sizes to fit any piece of furniture that rests or moves across your wood floor. Clean EZ Glides periodically and replace when needed.

We DO NOT recommend using wax, Murphy® Oil Soap, Orange Glow®, Pledge® or other household cleaners as they leave a residue that can be difficult to remove. Our Schmidt Custom Floors Cleaner is all natural and is safe to use on hardwood, tile, laminate and vinyl flooring.

Click here or stop by our showroom on Johnson Drive in Waukesha to pick up cleaner, EZ Glides & more!

Now get back to making those summer memories!

5th Annual Golf Outing for Make-A-Wish

Our 5th Annual Golf Outing was a success! This year we partnered with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin to sponsor William, a three-year-old in Menomonee Falls who wishes to have a camper. All of the proceeds and donations from the event will be going to help grant William’s wish!

We kicked off the event with an introduction to William and his parents, who shared a few sweet words and sent the golfers on their way. Luckily, the rain stayed away long enough for 18 holes of golf and activities! Afterward, we rounded up the players for dinner, and to raffle off prizes and announce the winners of the day.

We’d really like to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, and customers who came out to support and contribute to such a wonderful day. And a very special thanks to Ironwood Golf Course for hosting and Make-A-Wish Wisconsin for all the hard work!

4th Annual Schmidt Custom Floors Golf Outing

Our fourth annual golf outing was last Tuesday. This event was co-hosted with Cat5 Restoration Company. It was a gorgeous day and the event was a success. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, and customers for coming and contributing to the day. This year all of our proceeds and company donations are going to the Make-A-Wish Wisconsin foundation and sponsoring the wish of a little girl, Vivian, who wishes to go to Disney World. We had a previous Wish Family come and speak to the group before they hit the course. Below is the link for the video Ironwood put together of all the golfers, sponsors, and workers. Thanks Ironwood Golf Course for hosting and capturing the day!

Merry Christmas!

This past Friday evening at the Marriott Milwaukee West we held our annual Schmidt Custom Floors Christmas party. Each year we gather all the employees and their significant others to celebrate another year of hard work. The snow was coming down steady this year, but that didn’t keep us from getting together! The hotel was a new location for our annual party, but it did not disappoint with its beautiful ballroom chandeliers, tasty buffet spread, and delicious decadent desserts. The format for the party began with dinner and was followed by our President, Tim Schmidt’s, company address and awards ceremony. The company gifted our president and vice president with an array of gift cards to some of their favorite restaurants, a family tree printed and placed on canvas and wood, and a large, sturdy cutting board. Each divisional manager presented the awards for their winning crew members/partners.  This year we played a fun employee trivia game for prizes donated by our Holiday Party Sponsors.

We are blessed and eager to get everyone together around the holidays to celebrate the work and efforts displayed from all levels throughout the year. Without the people and group as a whole we would not be the business we are today. Our numbers are up and we couldn’t be happier about the growth and unity we have as a company.

From all of us at Schmidt Custom Floors, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

It’s the little things…

It’s the little things that mean the most sometimes. Our Athletic Division crews over the summer worked in Beardstown, IL and installed a new synthetic gym floor for First Christian Church. The gym was greatly welcomed and appreciated by all, and especially by the 2nd Grade class. We received this thank you note (shown below) from the second graders and their teacher. It was such a sweet and kind gesture that doesn’t happen all too often in the gym floor business. We couldn’t help but want to share this act of thoughtfulness.

Team Schmidt Custom Floors- 2016 Milwaukee Heart & Stroke Walk/5K Fun Run

This past Sunday morning Schmidt Custom Floors employees, as well as their families, gathered together to walk for a cause.  Anyone who was willing and able could come downtown to Veterans Park in Milwaukee for the Walk/5K Fun Run. We had close to 40 participants this year join and support our team. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning on the lakefront for the event. SCF has donated and worked with the American Heart Association for the past two years. Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We enjoy participating in and supporting such a local, great cause!
