Summer in Wisconsin is our favorite time of year! The kids are out of school, the BBQ is fired up and we’re all trying to soak up as much of the summer sun as possible. All this seasonal activity has us bringing the outdoors in, but preventative maintenance can help protect your floors from wet swimsuit drips and sandy feet!

Keep your floors looking fresh with a few of these summertime floor care tips!

Hardwood, Tile & Laminate

• Damp mop weekly, or as needed, and allow to air dry. We recommend using our concentrated SCF Floor Cleaner; it’s safe for hardwood, tile, and laminate, and goes a long way! Dilute one tablespoon with one gallon of warm water, dampen the mop with the solution, wring it out and mop the floors.

• Place dirt-trapping mats at all of your exterior doors as well as area rugs in high traffic areas. This will help to keep dirt, grit and, sand from scratching your floors and finish. Throw rugs just inside the door are also helpful.

• Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth to prevent staining or water damage. Water left on the surface can create stains, or do further damage under the surface. 

• Vacuum regularly with a brush attachment to pick up pet hair, dirt, etc. If you have an upright vacuum, use the hard surface setting.  

• Place felt pads, such as EZ Glides, under the legs of your furniture to prevent scuffing or scratching of your floors. We offer 5 different shapes and sizes to fit any piece of furniture that rests or moves across your wood floor. Clean EZ Glides periodically and replace when needed. 

We DO NOT recommend using wax, Murphy® Oil Soap, Orange Glow®, Pledge® or other household cleaners as they leave a residue that can be difficult to remove. Our Schmidt Custom Floors Cleaner is all natural and is safe to use on hardwood, tile, laminate and vinyl flooring.
